Food businesses urged to be safe

Food companies have been called upon by the Food Standards Agency to join its latest campaign.

The agency is asking food companies to register with the environmental health service in a bid to improve food safety standards.

Local authorities can help firms to stick to food hygiene regulations to ensure that they do not serve food that it is could harm their customers.

Being safe makes good business sense, the agency claims.

Those people planning to set up a new and innovative food business have also been advised by the agency to join the environmental health service.

An advertising campaign comprising posters radio adverts as well as press and online marketing material will support the campaign.

Recent research by the agency suggested that consumer knowledge of food hygiene may have started to slip.

However, consumers are becoming more aware of healthy eating options, the body reported.
