Brits steer clear of ‘new tastes’

April 30th, 2008

Britons prefer to stick to traditional foods rather than try different dishes, it has been suggested.

A poll by the What’s for Dinner Club has revealed that most people only cook six different dishes on a regular basis.

Roast chicken topped the survey of Brits’ most frequently eaten meals and was followed by firm favourites of curry, sausages and mash, pork chops spaghetti Bolognese and a stir fry.

Only two per cent of people suggested different dishes, the poll found.

Founder of the What’s for Dinner Club Cathy Grainger recognised that a busy lifestyle can mean some people find it difficult to break old habits.

Noting a family of three children she is friends with, Ms Grainger stated: “Although the family enjoys trying different foods neither parent has the time to plough through recipes books and magazines seeking inspiration.”

However, an unusual meat was recognised recently at the north-west Fine Food Awards.

Glossop goat cutlets from Derbyshire butcher John Mettrick received glowing praise from the judges.
