Red wine drinkers have been warned by new research that only one glass should be consumed a day.

While one glass of red wine has often been regarded as good for the health, two could be detrimental, the Daily Mail reports.

Published in the American Journal of Physiology, Heart and Circulatory Physiology, confirmed that one glass of alcohol relaxes blood vessels.

However, anymore than this could increase the risk of high blood pressure and heart failure.

Dr John Floras, Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, explained the findings of the study to the news source.

“We found a slight beneficial effect of one drink. However, two or more drinks would seem to turn on systems that stress the circulation,” he said.

In other news today, port sales have increased by four per cent over the last year, research firm Nielsen discovered.
